SD Futsal founder and director Mario Mrakovic, who also runs the SD Surf grassroots program, has a passion for Futsal. Mrakovic lists off the top-5 reasons players and parents should want to get on board the Futsal train.  

1. Futsal is Fun

One of the top reasons to attend Futsal camp is because sports are meant to be fun. The smiles on campers’ faces were ear-to-ear. For parents, the plus side of sending the kids to Futsal camp is that they sweat and run around so much they’ll come home exhausted.

2. Thinking it Through

Futsal organizers manage the game when needed (i.e. penalties, rule enforcement), but since the teams don't have coaches during the camps, the athletes are thinking for themselves. Furthermore, there is far more chatter on the court than on the field.

The small aspect of the playing field has the campers contributing in every position. They could be on defense one second and scoring at the other end the next. This helps developing athletes to understand each of the roles and take a tactical approach to their new jobs.

3. Precise Passing

In any given soccer game, a coach typically tells his players to know whom they are passing to and to think before they do it. In Futsal, a player will not be successful unless he or she learns to make precise passes, because the smaller field creates pressure from every angle. Placement is a big deal because the indoor surface makes the ball glide a lot faster.

It’s been said that going to a Futsal camp is like attending 10 regular soccer camps. Campers make marked improvement in a short amount of time. The cost is less than $200 for the five-day camp, 9am – 2pm, with a Futsal T-shirt and Futsal ball included.
