Manchester Boys Under 8 (2011/2012) Academy win the Manchester Cup! Over the June 11-12 weekend, the team, which is coached by Steve Hill, played in their second tournament of the season and once again came home with the trophy. They had a very tough test against an excellent SDSC team (San Diego Soccer Club). After drawing 1-1 in bracket play, the final ended 1-1 as well. Both teams hit the crossbar during regulation and both had chances in the extra time, but great defending ensured the champion would be decided by shootout to determine the Manchester cup champs. In the shootout, the Manchester boys: Brian Hanson, Laird Tassara, David Velediaz and Andrew Mitchell stepped upburied every shot in the back of the goal and keeper Alex Glynn came up huge to save 2 penalty shots. In the team's acceptance speech, Coach Hill recognized the great goalkeeping and the outstanding team effort which made the difference. This first year Manchester team is off to a fantastic start!

The Carmel Valley Manchester Boys U8 (2011-2012) Academy Team are also Nott's Forest Cup Champions! The boys played 4 games over the Memorial Day weekend and came out on top against a very good Albion team in the final. For their first tournament, and their first games played together, the team entered the Nott's Forest Cup Memorial Day tournament. No one knew what to expect, but the team got off to a great start winning their first game 9-1. In the next game, they faced the Albion Soccer Club team and fell behind 2-6, but came storming back to tie the game at 6-6. Their final bracket game was won 7-1. In the final, they met again with Albion and battled to a 2-2 half-time score. However, in the second half, the Manchester boys took control of the game and won 6-3 to capture the cup.
Six Carmel Valley Manchester teams entered the Nott's Forest Cup and all six made it to the final of their bracket, including the boys U8 Academy, boys U10 Academy and girls U13 Academy teams who each took home the trophies. The BU8 and GU13 teams are coached by Steve Hill. The BU10 team is coached by Jeff Illingworth. Congratulations to all of the Carmel Valley Manchester teams for a great tournament performance!
A bit of background on the Manchester BU8 team:
The Manchester Boys Under 8 (2011-2012) Academy team, coached by Steve Hill, is a newly formed team at the Manchester Soccer Club. Very few of the boys knew each other before coming together as a team earlier this year. However, that hasn't stopped them from getting off to a fantastic start with the team winning their first 2 tournaments (and currently holding an undefeated record)!
The team is looking forward to their next challenge in the Carlsbad Cup in July.
Congratulations!
