San Diego Soccer: CV Manchester U18 Takes on SD BOCA FC
The professional soccer team in San Diego, the San Diego BOCA FC agreed to play the Carmel Valley Manchester BU18 team in a Friendly match held at Balboa Stadium in San Diego last week. The goal was for all players to share their passion for soccer and enjoy a competitive match. This Friendly was the continuation of a series of Manchester Youth vs Pro games started by Coach Darren Parker to provide his BU18 team with exposure to professional teams and organize matches providing great competition. The first match played against CV Manchester BU 18 was by San Diego Sockers last month.
It was great experience for the CV Manchester U18 team and the SD Boca FC players thought it was great to support their local youth soccer community. According to Yan Skwara, president of SD Boca FC, "It was a pleasure to host Manchester U18's for a friendly private scrimmage and to give both sides the opportunity to get to know each other both on and off the field. It was a good, hard played ninety minutes for both soccer teams."
Skwara says "I think Manchester showed very well in the match as they have some very solid young talent on their side and they are coached well by Darren Parker. The players for Manchester got a taste of what its like to play against a higher and more physical level. This type of experience makes players better and stronger overall. That truly was what this game was about and at the same time, the match gave us a nice tune up for our game against Blanco and Irapuato."
The final score was SD Boca FC 3-1 CV Manchester. Coach Parker says "Many of the players on our U18 team are graduating high school soon and playing against professional soccer players provides an excellent experience before college soccer. The Manchester team trains hard, executes plays well and is dedicated to playing soccer. I am proud to coach these young men. Playing the professional teams in San Diego, the Sockers and Boca, gives the boys a close up look at what it is like to play soccer professionally."
"It is terrific that Coach Parker does this with this team. Boca says thank you to CV Manchester for coming down to play."
C.V. Manchester's Team Roster: Frederic Audelo, Joshua Diaz, Ruben Esparza, Brian Garcia, Donovan Gomez, Nolan Griswold, Adrian Gutierrez, Ryan Johnston, Alex Lagotta, Billy Leach, Alfredo Lomeli, Roberto Martinez, Robert Matsuura, Ivan Mendoza, Mark Revell, Rey Salado, Cesar Sanchez, Terry Travers, Bryant Vera and Drew Webb.
Darren Parker is a dedicated and talented soccer coach. Over the summer, he moved his U18 team from the Carmel Valley Del Mar Sharks Soccer Club over to the CV Manchester. His players are dedicated to him and moved in unison. Without the loss of any players, the entire team switched clubs -- all parents and players supporting Parker's decision that this is what was best for the team. He is the only coach who has approached San Diego's local professional soccer teams to play and succeeded in setting up firendly matches.
