Youth Club Soccer Spotlight: Carmel Valley Manchester BU9 Red Team Wins Hot Spurs Championship

Carmel Valley Manchester Coach Jeff Illingworth’s BU9 Red Team took home their second Championship trophy of the summer last weekend at the Hot Spurs Labor Day Weekend Tournament in Mira Mesa, California. The competition was extremely tight in four games in which no team went undefeated. 

Manchester lost to the Chula Vista Rangers 2-0, then beat Tiffiny’s Pachuca Academy 5-0, then defeated the Pumas 3-1 before facing the Chula Vista Rangers again in the Finals for a rematch where Manchester defeated the Rangers in a tough 3-1 game.   Goalie Liam Koeneke played the entirety of all four games and made many stellar saves and only gave up four goals all weekend.  The whole team worked together to allow many players to score goals including Daniel Delgado, Ethan Henderson, Kurren Cornfield, Reid Gross, and Jack Farfel. 

The team begins their regular season play in the Presidio League this coming weekend.
