Soccer News: Technology Transforms Youth Player and Team Communications
With more than 18 million youth soccer players in communities big and small, the United States has more organized players than any other country in the world. Now, youth soccer will be more organized than ever.
Washington Youth Soccer is the U.S.’ eighth-largest youth soccer organization and they have just announced partnering with technology innovator Korrio to manage their soccer business functions.
The partnership marks an impressive client win for Korrio, the youth sports automation provider whose Playflow™ platform combines mobile, web, and social networking elements to provide club administrators and coaches with an integrated solution for managing all aspects of club and team operations.
Now that is a mouthful, which in simple English translates to a comprehensive and sophisticated online management tool for communicating with players, parents, teams, coaches and ... ok, that is a lot of words as well. Think of a tournament registration system with a built in one-call system or email notification option along with team stats and practice schedules - all private and secure and as easy to use as facebook. Take a look at the screen shots for a better idea. A picture can say a thousand words much better than I can.
Korrio’s signing of Washington Youth Soccer, comprised of more than 124,000 players and their families, is a strong mark of acceptance into the world of youth soccer.
Korrio's vision of using new technology to improve sports efficiency could be a dream come true for the youth sports community and many frustrated team managers, who spend hours entering the same data into different systems and coordinating information to parents and players.
The initial programs launched with Korrio are Washington Youth Soccer’s Elite Player Development (EPD), comprised of more than 700 players. Korrio handles all EPD team registration, travel rosters, participation confirmations, and payment management. Korrio powers all State Cups and tournament play by automating scheduling, results, and standings.
“Korrio solves many communication challenges and will help make our organization stronger and more efficient as we grow,” said Terry Fisher, CEO of Washington Youth Soccer, a leading voice in using contemporary technology to drive a successful soccer organization.
“Playflow is a real game changer for the association and its membership by providing a powerful set of team communications and scheduling tools for our coaches, parents, and players.”
In addition to the benefits of Playflow’s integrated database, member families and players are able to take advantage of advanced communications and social tools to forge deeper connections with Washington Youth Soccer members and connect with the soccer community at large.
"We were impressed with the people behind Korrio, their vision and technical sophistication, from day one. No other solution combines simplified back-office automation and family-facing features all in one place,” said Doug Andreassen, President, Board of Directors, Washington Youth Soccer. “The fact that this platform is centered around the player is going to transform the youth sports experience.”
“Our partnership with Washington Youth Soccer proves that our Playflow platform enhances the business model for state soccer organizations,” said Korrio founder and CEO Steve Goldman. “We are working closely with their team to automate best practices and enhance their brand by simplifying sports administration. The ultimate goal is to make soccer more fun for everyone, whether on or off the field.”
Danny Jackson, Korrio’s Director of Business Development and former captain of the Seattle Sounders FC joined the company because he was so impressed with what the technology could accomplish. With 45 million kids participating in organized youth sports, more than four times the number twenty years ago, there is a lot technology can offer. As Jackson said "Soccer is about the players, not the organization of the players."
Jackson spent an hour plus walking me through a demo of the system and answering questions. Maybe Korrio offers something that we all want, an integrated system that works and is easy to use. Of course, Korrio can only organize the tournaments that use its system, so for this to work well, Korrio has to be broadly adopted.
Korrio is compatible with is as follows: Operating Systems: Mac, PC, and Linux, Mobile Phones: iPhone, Blackberry and Android. Calendar Integration: Outlook, iCal, Google Calendar and iPhone. Maybe there is hope for organizing our ever changing soccer lives. How often has your soccer schedule changed this season?
