San Diego Flash defeat San Diego Coaches 4-1
KICK FOR HOPE Exhibition Game between San Diego FLASH and San Diego Coaches was held at USD Friday, July 10, 2010.

San Diego soccer scene came together this evening for Kick for Hope’s kick off exhibition game between San Diego Flash and San Diego Coaches.

Kristen Chandler, Founder San Diego FLASH San Diego Club Coaches
San Diego’s competitive club coaches, along with special guest Luke Boughen who filmed the movie Pelada lost to the Flash in a grueling match. The San Diego Flash took on the following coaches from San Diego: Carlos Calderson from PQ Premiere, Donald Laing, Jason Heath and Robert Romero from SD United, Ruben Maldonado, Jose Torres  and Jonathan Maldonado from Kodiak, Jaime Villasenor from San Elijo Futbol Club, Joe Giacalone from FC San Diego, Cha Cha Namdar from Scripps United, Thierry Bouchereau from Carlsbad Lightning, Gino Rossi from Oceanside Breakers, Ada Greenwood  and Malachi Frese from San Diego Surf,  Roy Lassiter from Albion, Kiko Medina and Jerry Ruiz from Coronado, Jenny Lawlor from Murrieta, Tommy Tate from Arsenal. Coach Lev Kirshner also had Jaime Mata, Javier from Calle Republic, Luke Boughen from the soccer film Pelada, and Dave Light from Kick 4 Life on the Coaches team.

The San Diego Flash roster: Christian Valdez (GK), Nathan Leboffe, Lucas Carlsson, Christian Romero, Tim Roty, Andy Ortega, Brian Lewis, Nelson Pizarro, Jesse Graham. Duach Jock (Capt) and Larry Emeanua. The Flash made an early goal and the audience waited in anticipation for the Coaches to even the score and take the lead. Unfortunately, the exciting game was almost a shut out. Although the coaches demonstrated amazing one-touch passing ability, their skill at finishing never made it to the field.

Travis R. Chesney, Director of Communications for The San Diego Flash Soccer Club said “Kick for Hope is doing so much to help charities and the people in Africa, the Flash were proud to be part of supporting this organization. Standing on the coaches' side, both sides were excited just to be on the pitch supporting a great cause. The attitude on the field was one of camaraderie, and the game allowed both sides to show off their soccer talents and get the fans excited about their own coaches and their hometown soccer team."

It was an interesting game to watch.  The audience, at least the loud ones, seemed to be predominately family members and fans of the San Diego Coaches.  Many of the fans called out that there would be Advil available later and daughters could be heard encouraging their fathers to run faster.

Kristen Chandler, a soccer mom on a mission, established Kick for Hope to host soccer tournaments to benefit the children of Africa. Started on in 2008, Chandler has done a magnificent job of bringing together and uniting soccer enthusiasts for an important and worthy cause. Chandler reminds us that as we watch the World Cup, it is important that we also think of the poverty and disease that exists in Africa and most importantly, shows us all a way we can help make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable, the children of Africa.

The San Diego Flash proved their soccer talents as the younger, more aggressive team and consistently took the ball off the Coaches. But there were smiles all around and funds were raised for a worthy cause. It was great that the coaches and the Flash agreed to play this second annual kick off exhibition match.

The San Diego SeaLions are a proud supporter of Kick for Hope and were at the game signing autographs and throwing SeaLion t shirts into the stands.

This was a great event, I really hope that it continues and grows next year. It was great to see the coaches playing together, and the Flash showed a lot of spark. It was good to know that the monies raised went to a multitude of great causes.
