Indoor Soccer News: SD Sockers Sign Jason Santos

Cardiff native and former La Costa Canyon High School and San Diego Surf star to bolster midfield depth

The San Diego Sockers announced the signing of midfielder Jason Santos to a contract for the remainder of the 2011-2012 season. Santos will accompany the team on its trip to Monterrey, Mexico for the upcoming FIFRA Championships.

“Jason has been training hard with the Sockers Reserves and deserves an opportunity to showcase his talents with the parent club,” said general manager John Kentera.

Santos, 24, was born and raised in Cardiff by the Sea and played club soccer for San Diego Surf, helping his team to State Cup title and Regional Finals in 2007. In 2006 Santos was captain of his ODP team.

He graduated from La Costa Canyon High School, where he was captain of the soccer team his senior season and first-team All-Avocado League in 2006. He was selected as the team’s Best Offensive Player in 2003, was Honorable Mention All-Palomar League in 2004 and 2005, and earned San Diego Union-Tribune Scholar-Athlete honors.

Santos went on to play college soccer at UC Davis, where he was a two-year starter and named the team’s most inspirational player in 2010. In 2009, as a senior, he started in 18 of the 19 games in which he appeared, scoring one goal and recording three assists. During his time as an Aggie, Santos appeared in 44 games, starting 30 of them.

Jason’s brother Joe Santos is also a member of the Sockers Reserves team.

The Sockers will play in the first-ever FIFRA Championships, an international exhibition tournament featuring the Sockers, the Liga Mexicana de Futbol Rapido champion Monterrey Flash, and teams from Canada and Ecuador, taking place in Monterrey February 2-5.
