Why do you like playing center attacking midfield?
I like playing this position because you get the ball the most at that spot. Also, at this position you can control the speed of play and ultimately the game.
College:
I have committed to Santa Clara University in the Bay Area. I will be playing for Cameron Rast and Eric Yamamoto. I am excited because two of my National Team buddies have committed there as well - Kendall McIntosh and Ryan Masch.
Years Playing:
I started playing recreational soccer when I was 4 in the Fallrook Youth Soccer League. I moved on to club soccer with the Fallbrook Fury for U8-U10 and then spent six years playing for Erik Anderson at Nott's Forest, where I also played with the CalSouth 94 ODP team and Region IV ODP teams. Last year I spent six months in residency with the U.S. U17 MNT. I am now playing for the BU18 Academy team at Surf Soccer.
Why do you feel that the college selected you?
Santa Clara University selected me because they were looking for a midfielder who plays quick and has a good first touch. The coaches also feel I have great vision and creativity on the field.
What is your earliest soccer memory?
My earliest soccer memory is going to an LA Galaxy game with my dad.
Who else likes soccer in your family?
Everyone in my family enjoys watching and playing soccer. My brother, Christopher, and sisters, Mattie and Audrey, all play club soccer, too.
What's your most memorable soccer moment?
My most memorable soccer moment was definitely when I went to Northern Ireland to play in the international Milk Cup soccer tournament with the South Coast Strikers. We played theTottenham Hotspurs U17 Academy team in pool play and I scored the winning goal in the last 10 minutes of the game. The next day we went on to beat the Bolton Wanderers Academy team in the semifinals 1-0. It was a great experience and good to know that Southern California can compete with EPL academy teams.
Coach Tony Bruce Says...
Jared is a special player with great qualities. He plays the game like a little kid who is in the zone having a fantastic time. He is constantly doing the unexpected.
Tony Bruce recommended Jared Hegardt out of hundreds of soccer players to play in the prestigious Milk Cup in Ireland this summer.
