Madison Kline fired a laser into the back of the net to give the
So Cal Infinity GU10 Blue a 1-0 win over
Beach Futbol Club GU10 White in the first match of the
Coast Soccer League's
2010 Spring Cup on May 1. With the win, Infinity moves up on top of the Flight 1 Pool B group.
The San Bernardino Sports Complex was the site for all Spring Cup games for this age group. The long drive for both teams coupled with an early morning start did nothing to tarnish the beauty of the beautiful game that ensued. The first half of the game was a defensive battle dominated by Infinity with 6-1 shots-on-goal.
The defensive play of Infinity keeper,
Kelly Smith, and defensive stalwarts
Abi Bivens,
Mikalya Buscaino,
Jalene Buschini,
Abby Martinez and
Michael Guptill proved too much for the Beach attack.
The best opportunity for Infinity came when
Mia Richardson was fouled in the Beach penalty area. Infinity's
Isabel Dehakiz took the penalty kick but the Beach keeper seemed to have a ball magnet as the shot was swallowed up in her arms.
Infinity players with shots-on-goal in the first half were Guptill, Dehakiz,
Maricarmen Reyes and
Camille McDonnell however the half ended in a scoreless tie.
As the day began to heat up, the game resumed for the second half of the morning's beautiful game. Infinity continued the attack with deft ball movement resulting in once again dominating the time of possession. The results were seen in 5 shots-on-goal for Infinity compared to the single shot for Beach.
At the 16th minute of play, Richardson threaded the ball finding the feet of Kline. Kline took the ball and sent a laser shot past the Beach keeper breaking the deadlock and giving her Infinity the 1-0 lead.
The game continued with defense as the key word for Infinity to keep the Beach from scoring.
