College Soccer News: UC Irvine's Ibarra Invited to MLS Players Combine

UC Irvine senior midfielder Miguel Ibarra (Lancaster / Taft College) is one of 52 seniors invited to take part in the adidas Major League Soccer Player Combine from January 6-10 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He will attempt to show MLS coaches and scouts that he has what it takes to succeed in the pro ranks.

He will be joined by players from 31 Division I schools, an additional 14 players from other NCAA divisions and international players to be named later. Included in the group are four other players from three other Big West Conference schools. Joining Ibarra will be Cal Poly’s Pat Sigler, Cal State Northridge’s Rafael Garcia and UC Santa Barbara’s James Kiffe and Luis Silva.

The adidas MLS Player Combine will feature coaches and technical staffs from all 19 MLS clubs, including 2012 expansion side Montreal Impact, who will be in attendance to scout the top talent at the 17th annual player combine. The combine will be simulcast on for viewers to watch.

The MLS SuperDraft, which is two rounds, will take place on January 12, 2012, during the NSCAA Annual Convention and will be televised on ESPN2. A four-round supplemental draft will take place January 17.

Early mock drafts do have another Anteater, keeper Andrew Fontein (Las Vegas, Nev. / Sierra Vista HS), projected to go in the second round. Ibarra also showed up on’s list of top-25 prospects.

Both players, along with the rest of the ‘Eaters, await their fates as the draft approaches.
