Granada United Girls Take 2011 Cerritos Challenge Cup - Girls U11 Select Flight Bracket

There is no better way to spend time over the Memorial Day weekend than with a Tournament victory. The girls played very well in winning all five games, scoring 13 goals and only allowing a single goal.

Saturday started with two very strong wins, 5-0 over Albion SC Red and then a 3-1 victory over FC Man United. Both of these games saw the Granada offense explode. Sunday began with a hard fought 1-0 win over the Las Vegas Premier White team which then set up an afternoon showdown with Fram who also had 3 wins. This game was a must win for Granada to move on to the final. The game started and was played in a very strong wind and had Granada ahead 2-0 at the half. The girls added another goal in the second half and the 3-0 final score meant that the fourth straight win would set up a Final game for Monday against Infinity White.

The game with Infinity started very fast and aggressive with both teams wanting to win this game. The teams fought for every ball for the full 60 minutes. After about 20 minutes Granada put the ball in the Infinity net on a beautiful goal that the Infinity keeper had no chance to prevent. Despite an intense and frantic attack by Infinity to try to tie the score, the Granada defense held tough and with superb goalie play, preserved the 1-0 win and the Championship trophy. 

Coach Jose Vasquez said, "The girls played very well over the whole weekend.  Each and every girl performed the way we asked them to and they can feel very proud of this great accomplishment.  This result is all due to the girls' hard work and dedication over the past few weeks"
