I spoke briefly with Dan Gaspar on July 1st while he was still in South Africa at the World Cup. Gaspar said he was proud of his team and that there was no humiliation in loosing to Spain, the best team in the world. Gaspar will be returning home on Sunday and back at work at the University of Hartford on Monday ready to share his World Cup experiences. Gaspar has been on leave for an incredible 51 days, living the World Cup dream.
We congratulate Dan Gaspar and the Portugal National soccer team for all they have accomplished and brought to the world of soccer. And a special thanks to Dan for sharing all the special, behind the scenes soccer experiences with our visitors.
Here is Dan Gaspar's most recent update from the Portuguese National Soccer Team at the World Cup.

2001 FIFA World Cup Update: Portugal is out.
Portugal was defeated by Spain 1 to 0. Portugal was in Group G, “The Group of Death” that included Ivory Coast, North, Korea and Brazil. Portugal played against number 1 team in the world, Brazil and number 2 in the world, Spain.
I believe our players represented Portugal with dignity, honor and pride. Although we are sad and disappointed and certainly not satisfied to have to leave South Africa at this stage of the competition, we do come home with our heads held high.
It was an absolute fantastic experience. I want to share my gratitude for all your kind comments and support through -out my world cup experience. I never say good-bye, instead see you soon my friends.

Now, I am anxious to return to the US and see my family and friends and to share my unique experiences as an American born coach participating in the 2010 South Africa World Cup with the Portugal National Team. It was a great opportunity for me to learn and grow as a professional coach as well as have the opportunity to make contributions at the highest levels.
