Youth Soccer: FC Blades GU13 Gets the Point
Last weekend, on Saturday, September 29, 2012, the FC Blades Girls GU13 tied Select Cities Avalanche 99 and earned a valuable point in Coast Soccer League’s Girls Under 13 Gold division.
The 0 – 0 draw gives FC Blades its first points of the young season, creating momentum they can build upon.
The beautiful mid-afternoon game at Mark Daily Athletic Complex in Irvine was the first home game for FC Blades, who were playing host to Select Cities.
The two teams showed a contrast of playing styles, with Select Cities playing long balls over the Blades’ defense in hopes of getting a one on one breakaway.
Blades’ style was one of possession, bringing the ball out from the back with passing and movement off the ball.
The first half was very evenly matched, with a slight edge to Select Cities who had 7 shot attempts to Blades 6. The second half proved a different story as Blades could all but taste a goal, with 6 shots on target and 4 off to Select Cities 5 shots off target. However, breaking the plane of the goal proved to be elusive on this day giving both teams the valuable point in league standings.
Blades players with shots on goal were Austyn Briggs, Averee Dubach, Ava Gomez, Kyra Greenwood, Abby Martinez, Lauren Medow, Cassandra Opre, and Alice Shiga.
