Youth Soccer News: Encinitas Express GU10 Win FC Manchester United Cup

Congratulations to the Encinitas Express GU10 team for winning the FC Manchester United Cup on January 23, 2011. They were undefeated over the 2 day period, clenching the tournament in a final win against the Fullerton Rangers White team, scoring 1-0 for the title. This is their third final, and second championship this season (San Diego United Summer Classic).

This post season has been incredibly challenging playing the Coast league teams in gold level events. The girls managed to build off of those experiences in the past couple of events, and put it all together in their last official tournament before State Cup.

Encinitas Express GU10 is coached by Som Faramarzi and the team roster includes: Lulu Barger, Taylor Buckley, Bridget Brightfield, Claire Gunness, Skylar Enge, Melia Ennis, Kristy Clanton, Malia Faramarzi, Emma Sigurdsson, Makenna Garvey, Isabella Smith, and Lexy Finnerty.

The Express GU10 White Team has been together since April 2010, and returns 8 players from last year's State Cup Quarter Final team. More impressively, there are still 7 players together from the original team at GU8.  According to Head Coach  Faramarzi "The girls have come a long way in the past three years, and have built a solid relationship and continuity with one another.  The chemistry they have built with one another is reflected both on and off the field”.

Coach Faramarzi has been with the girls in some capacity for the past three seasons, and took over the team officially for 2010, his third year with Express.  “Our team has tremendous athleticism and physicality which has allowed them to be a hardnosed defensive team when the game is on the line”

The Express team hopes to have a another successful run at State Cup once again.  It will be more difficult playing in the President’s division, but the girls are certainly excited for the challenge.
