MLS News: Chivas USA Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy Voted MLS Player of the Week
Kennedy becomes the first goalkeeper to earn the award
Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 6 of the 2012 MLS season. Kennedy made four saves, keeping a clean sheet against Toronto FC on Saturday, en route to earning the Goats’ 1-0 victory and third consecutive on the road, the club’s best road start in their history.
An inspired Dan Kennedy saved the Goats from the equalizer in several opportunities. At the 16th minute, on an individual play, Toronto's midfielder Luis Silva faced Kennedy one-on-one, but the Goat's GK deflected the shot and kept his goal safe. In the 70th minute, Kennedy again, one-on-one, on his knees deflected Danny Koevermans' back-heeled shot, and in the 89th minute, Kennedy avoided the equalizer by deflecting Koevermans' point-blank shot.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at soccerreporters.com.
