Youth Soccer News: Cal South State Cup Update - Quarter Finals Match Cosmos West U9 vs CV Manchester
U9 Match Results: Cosmos West defeated CV Manchester 6-4.
Lancaster, California often is known for strong winds. The wind, as can been seen from the angle of the ref's flag, was blowing forcefully last Sunday, however the young competitive soccer players, ages 8 and 9 played a great game of soccer in the Quarter Final match between Cosmos West and CV Manchester.
Jeff Illingworth, Director of Coaching for DMCV Manchester Soccer Club, said after his U9 team played against the Cosmos West in Cal South State Cup, Presidents Division on March 6, 2011 “One of the best games I have ever been involved with in the past 30 years that I have been in soccer in San Diego. I am very proud of the kids, couldn’t be better and it is a real credit to American soccer when you can send 8 and 9 year olds on the field to play like that; they played in great spirit. The parents behaved great, the kids were magnificent.”
Tony De Vocht, Coach for the Cosmos West BU9 team said, "It was a very exciting game. Our player #10 had 6 goals. He is amazing, makes my job easy. The kids are fun to coach and it is a blast to be part of that group of very dedicated players." Cosmos Academy West is currently ranked #3 in the United States by Soccer America.

Illingworth when asked who scored for his team replied, “I don’t even care who scored. Every one played well. We scored 4 goals which is really pretty great, and we could have scored more, so it was that close. And at the end of the day, the Cosmos West probably have the best player in the United States, #10, so we did as well as we could against him.”
The Cosmos Academy West parents, many wearing smart green and white jackets with the name of their club on the back, all cheered passionately as their team pulled ahead to win the match and move ahead toward the final match next Saturday.
De Vocht Continued, "I told the boys that it is the boys’ game to go out there and have fun and just to get to the finals is great. Our U9 Cosmos West team has had a great season. If we win great, but if we don’t, we have nothing to be ashamed of. It would be icing on the cake."
