Youth Soccer News: Roy Lassiter Summer Camp 2011

Cobi Jones was in San Diego on Friday July 8 to spend some time with the players at Lassiter Camp.

Now a member of the Hall of Fame and one of the most successful players in the history of U.S. Soccer, Cobi Jones was a walk-on Freshman at UCLA who hadn't been recruited by a single college soccer program.

It is interesting to know that during his years playing youth club soccer in Southern California, he was never part of ODP (Olympic Development Program)or any national team program.

Cobi Jones shared his story of determination, describing the day his high school soccer coach told him, "You're the worst player I've ever coached."

Luckily for America, the unwavering support of family, friends, and teammates, along with his own self-confidence kept his soccer dreams alive

Cobi Jones spoke with campers and encouraged them to live their dreams. During his question and answer time with the players, he vividly described the notorious tackle he received during the 2002 World Cup when USA beat Mexico's "El Tri" 2-0 in the knock-out stages.

Jones also shared his thoughts on training and juggling, team camaraderie, and personal stories of inspiration and determination
