Chivas USA Launches School Contest and Takes Successful “Read & Score” Bus Tour to the Next Level
Read & Score Bus Tour to return in 2012 bringing the excitement of reading to five schools, with one slot to be decided through online video contest
On Tuesday, November 29, Chivas USA announced the launch of a unique contest that will have schools all over Southern California competing for the chance to be part of the club’s 2012 Read & Score Bus Tour. Next year’s tour will coincide with Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read Across America festivities.
Chivas USA players, the ChivaGirls and ChivaFighter will be riding the Read & Score Bus and visiting schools all over Southern California during “Read Across America Week” in March of 2012. The tour will visit five schools in five days, with four of the sites to be chosen by Chivas USA program coordinators. The fifth stop will be decided by an online video contest that will have schools create a video showing their enthusiasm for reading. Videos will be posted on the Chivas USA website and Facebook page for an online voting process. The school that receives the most online votes will be chosen to be a part of our 2012 Bus Tour.
- Participating schools must create a 2-minute video (approximately) where students show their enthusiasm for reading.
- Videos may be submitted for participation as of today and until the 13 of January, 2012.
- Videos will be posted on Chivas USA’s Facebook page and club webpage.
- School contestants will then be tasked with mobilizing teachers, parents, and students to cast their vote for their favorite video.
- The online voting period will kick off on January 23 and the winning school will be announced in February.

“Our club is proud of what this program has achieved in such a short period of time,” said Nadia Gonzalez, Sr. Manager of Community Affairs for Chivas USA. “This contest will help grow our Read & Score program and help more teachers get their students and families excited about reading.”
Each of the five participating schools will enjoy a visit by Chivas USA players, the ChivaFighter, and ChivaGirls who will arrive at each site on a school bus where they will host an assembly and activities that include being read to by club players.
