MLS News: Chivas USA’s “Read & Score” Bus Tour to Feature “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax” And Special All-Star Reading Team
The five-day tour will include a series of unique school assemblies designed to motivate students to read
On Friday, February 23, Chivas USA announced the details of its 2012 “Read & Score” Bus Tour, a special week-long event that will have thousands of school children all over Southern California reading Dr. Seuss’s classic fable “The Lorax.”
Chivas USA’s all-star reading team will arrive at each school on an actual school bus, bringing with it special guest readers, members of the ChivaGirls squad, the ChivaFighter mascot, and The Lorax character from Universal Pictures upcoming “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax” movie, in theaters March 2. The animated adventure follows the journey of a 12-year-old as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.
Special guest readers confirmed to take part include Kevin Baxter from the LA Times; ESPN Deportes anchor David Faitelson; 710 ESPNRADIO reporter Beto Duran; KWHY Channel 22 sports anchor Diana Alvarado; Univision Kmex Channel 34 Sports’ Enrique Gutierrez; Victor Cordero and Iran Daniel from Telemundo Channel 52; Crash from Mun2; 107.1 Super Estrella radio host Orlando Rodriguez; and Exitos 93.9 radio host JC Cuevas. Joining the group will also be Universal Music Artist bands La Santa Cecilia and Upground.
Each school will also receive a donation of books for their library, made possible through the support of Lectorum Publications, Inc., and the National Education Association (NEA). This is the second year that Chivas USA hosts this event designed to create awareness for the club’s Read & Score program, an initiative that rewards top student readers at close to one-hundred participating schools and local libraries.
