Youth Soccer Spotlight: Carlsbad Lightning GU14 Win Irvine Summer Classic Tournament.

Irvine Summer Classic Soccer Tournament. held on June 19th and 20th, 2010 on the campus of UCIrvine.  The all-girls soccer weekend was held on 9 fields and had perfect weather.

Competition was tough. Carlsbad Lightning GU14 Red faced off with the GU14 Temecula Valley Hawks in the finals of the top bracket.

Both the teams entered the finals with three wins under their belts.

The match was 0-0 at the half.

Lightning hit the go ahead early in the second only to have Hawks hit the equalizer late in the game.  Hawks score was off a corner.   Lightning's goal was off of Shelby Ingersoll flip throw in to a header by Margo Cox.

This tournament had no OverTime, so it was off to Penalty Kicks.

Each keeper made a great save to keep their team on pace, but Hawks put one over the top and Lightning hit four strikes giving them the Championship medals.

Coach Theirry Bouchereau told SN “this was not a bad start (our first tournament). The girls did well and this was a great tournament for team building. They will only get better from here.”

Coach Theirry’s ladies scored 17 goals to just 2 against.

Lightnings PK’s were nailed by Brieanna Jones, Taivin Rodrigues, Sierra Hald, and Batavia Mata. Goalie Hanna Macaulay had a great weekend as the new keeper for the Squad.
