Carlsbad Elite GU93 Celebrates Victory

Youth Soccer News: Prestigious Coast Soccer League comes to Carlsbad and Carlsbad Elite GU93 are Victorious.

While many teams are in the heat of their seasons and working hard to complete their final games with much needed victories, there was even more at stake on this particular Saturday for the much anticipated home games for the newly launched  “Carlsbad Elite” soccer program.  These carefully selected teams play in the Coast Soccer League and recently held three games for the Elite B94, G16 and G17 teams at their home fields at Aviara Community Park in Carlsbad.

The soccer teams that formerly played in the Presidio Soccer League and then decided to make the jump to the Coast League understand the challenges of this choice. These teams know that it requires dedication to even get to the games as many players travel a few hours to reach the field and compete in the Coast League. The players make this choice to play against some of the best youth teams in Southern California, as many soccer enthusiasts believe the Coast league offers tougher competition.  To be able to play several soccer matches in the Carlsbad area home fields, in North San Diego, was a luxury and a pretty big deal.

Jimmy Murphy the Director Of Coaching for Carlsbad Elite was definitely walking in uncharted water. This was the first time the Coast League has approved league play games below Mission Viejo.

The first game was the boys Carlsbad Elite 94 playing United FC Black, both teams are part of the Coast League's Gold Division.   The game was a great battle and unfortunately, Elite came up short 3 -2.  Next the Carlsbad Elite GU16 played the Irvine Strikers, again from the Coast League's Gold Division.  The half time score was in favor of the Strikers 2-1 and stayed that way until the final whistle.  Carlsbad Elites' only score was by #9 Kari Catrambone.  Strikers received an own goal off of an Elite Defender and a second one from #43 Cierra Gamble.

Finally the Carlsbad Elite GU17 took on West Coast FC.  This was the GU17's second to last game for the league and the Carlsbad Elite team only needed one more win to clinch the Gold title and earn a birth to the Premier division next year. The team couldn’t think of a better way than to win the title at home.  The team achieved their victory with the take down of WCFC and a final score of 1-0.  The winning goal was scored mid-way through the first half when Allyssa Kenney hit a dead on cross to Vicki Vargas’s head.  The Carlsbad Elite’s G93 is now sitting on top by four points with one game to go, making it impossible to catch them.

The G93 Carlsbad Elite team joined the Coast League last year and was slotted into the Silver Elite division.  They won that title, which allowed them to play in the Gold division for this current season.  Winning two consecutive titles in their divisions is a significant achievement.  The team is also undefeated for the season.

“Our goal has a team has always been to play at the highest level possible and to provide the girls quality exposure from top colleges.  The girls set their goal of making it to the Premier level in Coast League two years ago and they have now achieved it.  Although it hasn’t always been easy and they’ve had their ups and downs, the team has worked extremely hard and got it done when it mattered. I couldn’t be happier for the girls; they deserve it!” says Murphy. Making it to the Premier division has always been the team’s goal and this is a great achievement for the team, as well as their club.

The referees, Scott Hudnall, Alex Warden, and Ted Sparkuhl, for the matches were from the South Coast Referee Organization (SCRO) based in Mission Viejo.

Next up for the team: The Carlsbad Elite program will host “NOVEMBER NIGHTS GIRLS ELITE SHOWCASE” to be played November 26 through 28 and, yes, under the lights.  The tournament will be hosting some highly competitive teams from Cal South, Cal North, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Washington.

G93 Carlsbad Elite roster includes: Jazmin Aguas, Ally Anderson, Ally Hailey, Charlotte Brutten, Ellie Tvedt, Alexis Hogan, Andrea Leano, Megan Wagner, Allyssa Kenney, Monique Purner, Hannah Riegler, Katie Ross, Mikayla Siegel, Alana Torres, Maddie Phillips, Victoria Vargas, Bella Vidana, and Hayley Wirth.

The Carlsbad Elite youth soccer program for next year is already scheduled to expand their participation in the Coast League.  This season, only U16 and older were eligible to play.  Next season, the age groups able to participate will now start at U14.  The program is providing players who want to step up their play a great alternative, rather than having to join teams that are over an hour away and drive up for practices as well as league play.  The level of competition for the games is amongst the highest in Southern California.
