Quick look at CalSouth and our youths' soccer accomplishments

There are more than 100,000 families involved in soccer in Southern California and Cal South oversees more than 250 member leagues and clubs representing more than 10,000 teams with 30,000 coaches, referees and league administrators.  Here are a few impressive statistics:

Cal South Olympic Development Program (ODP) teams have won 16 out of 40 U.S. Youth Soccer ODP National Championship trophies (40%) since their inception in 2000.

Club teams from Cal South have won 31 U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship trophies since U14 & U15 brackets were added in 2001 through 2010.

25% of the U.S. Women's National Team roster for the 2003 World Cup were Cal South alumni.

26% of the U.S. Men's National Team roster for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa were Cal South alumni.

80% of U.S. Youth Soccer Presidents Cup Regional titles (16 of 20) have been won by teams from Cal South since the event was established in 2009.

Club teams from Cal South have won 123 out of 224 U.S. Youth Soccer Region IV Championship trophies (54.9%) from 1997 through 2010.

According to Cal South's website, the California State Soccer Association - South (Cal South) is a 501c(3) California public benefit corporation and is the official youth and adult state soccer association of the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer. Cal South represents 230 Member Leagues and Clubs comprising our membership of more than 160,000 registered players, coaches, referees and league administrators. The organization, with a service area that extends from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, provides rewarding recreational and competitive opportunities for players of all ages, genders and skill levels.

Johnnie Garza became the current president of Cal South in February 2010, taking over from Gregg Falk, who had been president for almost five years. There is a long list of impressive men and women who have worked tirelessly to make soccer in Southern California grow.  

Norm Nielsen, Gary Patton, Becky Sheridan, Gil Oftedal, Rod Chambers, Reg Banks, Roz Houser, Lee Ann Harris, John Harper, Ray Horspool, and Rod Short are among other past presidents of Cal South.
