Youth Soccer News: Local Chula Vista Ranger Players Win Baja California Title
Local Chula Vista Ranger players Minette Ortega, Yaira Guardado, Estefania Corona, Alyssa Campa, Samantha Pham, and Carla Martinez won the Baja California Title this past weekend in the state tournament held in Ensenada, Baja California.
The Tijuana team played against the other state representatives from Ensenada, Mexicali, and Rosarito to determine the team who would represent Baja California Norte in the Regional Championship which is being held on February 9-14 in Culiacan, Sinaloa Mexico.
The first game against southern neighbor Ensenada ended in a 2-2 tie after regulation. The final result was Tijuana winning on penalty kicks by a score of 3-1. The second game was a 3-1 victory over visiting Mexicali and the last game was a 4-0 victory over the close neighbors just minutes away Rosarito.
Coach Mario Oropeza will now determine if players from the other state teams are needed to reinforce the Tijuana’s Baja California Norte team’s roster for the match in February.
"The girls had an experience they will never forget and were treated as professional athletes over the weekend" states parent Carol Martinez.
The Tijuana Government provided an all expenses trip for the players that included transportation, hotel and uniforms.
The next step for these players will be an opportunity to represent Baja California Norte in the regional tournament against Baja California Sur, Sonora and Sinaloa.
The Federal government will also cover the expenses of the selected players to participate in the tournament next month.
After the regional championship there will be an opportunity to play in the National Championship which will be held in Toluca, Mexico March 23rd to April 4th.
"Congratulations to all our players and a big thank you to Victor Melendez and the Chula Vista Rangers for giving the kids this very good opportunity" Enrique Martinez, Board of Director member at large, Chula Vista Rangers.
