Youth Soccer News: Alex Morgan and Coke Team Up for Copa Coca-Cola

America’s favorite soccer darling, Alex Morgan has news. She has teamed up with Coke to help share the excitement of FIFA World Cup 2014 and help young people all across the country enjoy a cool new soccer competition. While winning a soccer tournament is always exciting, the greatest perk of Copa Coca-Cola is the chance of a lifetime -- to be flown to Brazil and represent the U.S. during the FIFA WORLD CUP.  

As World Cup fever grips soccer fans across the globe, Coca-Cola is giving young players the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to win a trip to the Copa Coca-Cola® Soccer Camp in Brazil during the 2014 FIFA World Cup™.  


Something new in the youth soccer world: Copa Coca-Cola is a international youth soccer tournament played in 60 countries around the world. The tournament, taking place in the U.S. starting February 22, will allow more than 4,000 teens between the ages of 13 and 15 to take part in the excitement leading up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup™.

What do the winners get? Four players from the national championship teams (two boys and two girls) will have the opportunity to participate in the Copa Coca-Cola Soccer Camp in Brazil, a unique experience with more than 150 other young players from around the world, all Copa Coca-Cola participants of their country’s national tournament. 

What does it cost to enter the tournament? There are no tournament fees.  "It is free!" said Alex Morgan, U.S. Women’s Soccer Olympic Gold Medalist, "and I hope everyone comes out to play. The tournament will be held in the top ten cities across the America and the final will be held in LA."

Where can teams register? To become one of the 4,200 teens participating, players must sign-up for the tournament as part of a five to seven-player team at starting January 1 through February 16. The first 30 boys’ teams and 30 girls’ teams to register in each participating market will get the opportunity to be part of Copa Coca-Cola.

Facts about the tournament: A 30 team round robin tournament per gender bracket will be held in 10 participating cities. Six (6) divisions of five (5) teams each with 1st and 2nd place teams advancing to playoffs.

Additionally, in the spirit of friendship and team camaraderie, Copa Coca-Cola will also offer a second chance division for additional teams to advance. The second chance drill selection will occur after group play. All teams will participate in scored individual drill assessments for a cumulative team score. Four teams eliminated in group play will still have the chance to advance via this cumulative score. There will be 2 second chance divisions of 2 teams each who will play advancing teams from group play in the quarterfinals phase. Click here for more details!

The tournament’s local phase, which begins February 22, will be held in ten U.S. Cities: San Jose, Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Miami, Chicago, Atlanta and New York.

The series of local tournaments will lead into one national final in Los Angeles from April 18 – 20, 2014 featuring one team per bracket from each market.

The Copa Coca-Cola national final will be a part of weekend-long festivities, including the culmination of the global FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour™ at StubHub Center. In anticipation of the sport’s biggest tournament, Coca-Cola and FIFA have taken the iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy to 88 countries around the world, and are bringing it to its 89th and final destination with stops in four cities across the United States. The Tour has given more than one million people around the world the chance to experience soccer’s most coveted prize in their own communities, getting a taste of the celebration before it heads to Brazil.
