San Diego Soccer: Albion SC Boys Edge Out Poway Vaqueros to Win Nott's Forest Labor Day Cup

Albion SC BU12 red, coached by Ryan Carruth, went into the Nott's Forest Labor Day Cup with a lofty goal: defend the championship they'd won in the San Diego United Summer Challenge three weeks prior.  Two of the teams they'd faced in the United tournament were back again -- SD United and Poway Vaqueros.

The Poway Vaqueros were a distinct challenge, since every 2010 summer tournament game between Albion SC and Vaqueros had ended in either a 0-0 or 1-1 tie.  The two teams tied 1-1 during group play at Albion Cup in July, tied 0-0 at the San Diego United Summer Challenge in August, and tied 0-0 during group play of the Nott's Forest Labor Day Cup.  Destiny and hard work brought both teams to Robb Field for the championship game on the traditional "Last Day of Summer."  There would be no tie.  One of the teams had to walk away with the Championship.

Not surprisingly, the score was tied 0-0 at halftime.  The second half came to and end, and the score remained 0-0.  After two 10-minute overtime periods, there was still no score.  A penalty kick shootout would decide the championship between these two evenly matched teams.

Albion SC came out ahead in the shootout, winning 3-1.

Less than one week later, the two teams met again in the opening game of Presidio League, and the Vaqueros came away with a 4-2 win.  The 2010 BU12 AA-A South Presidio League is sure to be a wonderful season of closely contested games.

This is great soccer!
