A. J. Soares was born November 28, 1988 in Solana Beach, California and attended Torrey Pines High School playing soccer at San Diego Surf Soccer Club. Soares was captain of his High School soccer team in his junior and senior seasons, and won the 2005 Division 1 CIF Championship. Soares also participated in the California ODP program from 2001–2006, and was a national champion with the Cal-South 88 club team, before college soccer at the University of California, Berkeley where he was First Round Draft Pick.
